Philip Jessop (Queen's University)
Viresh Rawal (University of Chicago)

On December 11, 2009, the first edition of the CCGC Annual Meeting was held in the Honor Hall of Université de Montréal. By all accounts, it was a great success for our center, who has certainly managed to step into the spotlight: high attendance, renowned invited guests, maximum scientific interactions, slight inconvenience avoided... What more could we have asked for? Number addicts will surely appreciate the following statistics: our web site received more than 100 visits per day for the occasion; we attracted over 150 chemistry professionals and students, who, all day long, have heard 8 conferences and seen 27 poster presentations. Attendees came from both nearby universities (UdeM, McGill, UQAM, Sherbrooke, ULaval) and the industry (SoluPhase, Merck Frosst, Paprican). During lunch hour, everyone was swarming around a copious buffet (compliments of CGCC) and moving across the intertwined poster panels, questions in mind and food in hand. All seemed to enjoy discussing the results of their recent discoveries in green chemistry and catalysis, giving way to an open exchange of ideas and, who knows, to new collaborations. The scientific program was well diversified, with each research axis being presented in a separate lecture. We particularly thank our three invited speakers, Professors Anastas (Yale), Jessop (Queen's) and Rawal (Chicago) who did not hesitate to set aside some time in their busy schedule to come to Montreal. Paul Anastas has even traveled back and forth in just one day for the occasion: landing at 8:32, UdeM at 9:15, talk at 10:30, a few bites and handshakes and, hop into another taxi at 12:45! So many emotions!
